A very good start is to work on the following:

Your Vision Statement: Where are your going?
Your Mission Statement: How are you going to get there?
Your Culture Statement: What are the rules you play by?
Your Uniqueness Statement: What makes you different than your competition?

When in business, you always have the opportunity to go left or right of center. And you all know what I mean. If you have really good statements of the above, you are off to a good start. But here is the kicker. You, as the owner, must live by those statements because if you don’t, your team won’t either.
