To prepare for a fresh start in the New Year, one of the things I do is clean up. I go through my desk drawers and get rid of all the things I don’t used and organize what I do use. I then go through all my files, tossing out irrelevant ones and archiving the inactive. I also look through my closets and get rid of the cloths and shoes I have not worn in the past year. I usually give them to Stella Maris in downtown Cleveland or to the half-way house in Painesville. I get rid of all the clutter.

Why is this exercise so important? Number one, because it forces you to look at last year’s activities and decide their relevance. Number two, because you are making room for new, more effective strategies. You can’t expand your vision if there is no room to expand. If your life is so full of clutter that is not relevant, it is very difficult, if not impossible, to make improvements.

You will be surprised at how this exercise opens you up and prepares you for the New Year.
